The rise of Mary Janes

This year we have seen the rise of Mary Janes and I couldn’t be happier about it. Awhile ago you used to have to wear a pair of heels in order to spice up your outfit, when now you have many flat options. Read below for how to style and where to find your next pair of Mary Janes.

There are so many different styles of Mary Janes and whichever style you choose to purchase will be a great addition into your closet. For a lot of women the Mary Jane trend has been like a trip down memory lane and some of them just can’t seem to hop on the train. Whenever I come across a client like this I always tell them just to trust me and give the trend a try. If Mary Janes tend to scare you here are a few styles that will help you ease into the trend.

Danseur Black Patent, Steve Madden $70

Miranda  Mary Jane Flat, Sam Edelman $240

If Mary Janes don’t scare you and you’re looking to buy a pair to spice up your wardrobe, I would suggest starting with adding colour and/or a different design. As were now a month and a half into the fall season the colours I would suggest buying would be burgundy, shades of brown and you can also look for mesh styles, suede styles and cheetah print styles as well. Here are a few of my favourite statement pairs of Mary Janes.

Studded Suede Mary Janes, Zara $80

Leopard Signature Leather Square Toe, NEXT  $110

Often times I find clients of mine struggle with how to style the pieces they have in their closet. I can almost guarantee when it comes to Mary Janes people feel the exact same way. So here’s a few pieces that MJ’s style perfectly with.

  • A good dark pair of denim

  • cable knit sweaters

  • a mini skirt / silk skirt

  • button up cardigans

  • crew socks (if you’re feeling spicy)

There are so many different styles of Mary Janes and these are just a few I wanted to highlight this week. Stay tuned to SezzeStyles on Instagram where I will be sharing StylePins on how to style the MJ’s that are in this blog.
