tips for vacation styling

As we head into the spring and summer months, vacations and travelling will become more prominent in our lives. Deciding what outfits to wear on vacation can be a huge stressor. When you can’t decide on what pieces to bring, you end up over-packing and bringing outfits you won’t wear. How to pack solely depends on where you are travelling to. I recently took a vacation to Scottsdale, Arizona, and for the first time in my entire life I felt as if I wasn’t crazy overpacked. Plans can change especially when travelling so it’s important to have a few extra options that showcase different vibes in case that happens.

As I was packing for my vacation I focussed on bringing pieces I knew I would reach for. Whether that meant they fit well or they were versatile enough to pair with multiple different pieces, I knew they would be easy to wear. A few examples of these pieces are a pair of denim shorts, a pair of linen shorts, a few staple dresses (1-3) and basic t-shirts and tank tops (1-2 of each style) that could be layered depending on the weather that day. These are essential pieces to have when travelling to a hot destination.

If you’re reading this you probably go shopping before your vacations to pick out new outfits just to add a bit of spice into your vacation wardrobe. These outfits are important for dinners and specific occasions and can truly make the vacation feel complete. With that being said I can promise you, you don’t need a ‘spice’ outfit for every occasion. When shopping for vacation outfits try to keep the purchasing to a minimum of 2 outfits. I find when I stray away from this I end up buying too much and not wearing it.

My last piece of advice for styling and packing would be to buy a personalized StyleBook. StyleBooks are 8,12 or 24 styles that are tailored specifically towards you, your style, and your destination. They help eliminate any room for overpacking and over purchasing pre-trip. A StyleBook will lay out your outfits for you for your different events and occasions so that you never have to worry about what to wear. Since becoming a stylist and creating StyleBooks for many different trips I have seen how beneficial these can be for my clients.

If you or someone you know has an upcoming trip, fill out my contact form under the ‘Contact’ heading and we can work together to create a curated StyleBook for you and your vacation.
